Lakers Set to Face Army in Atlantic Hockey Action

West Point, NY. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team returns to conference play this weekend with a two-game road series against the Army West Point Black Knights. The Lakers aim to rebound from their recent non-conference series against Minnesota. 

History 

Mercyhurst leads the all-time series 45-23-7 against Army. Last season, the teams split their two-game series, with Army winning the second game 4-3. The Lakers hold a 17-14-5 record on the road in the series history.  In the last ten matchups, Army holds the edge 6-4.     

Laker Outlook 

Mercyhurst (2-17-3, 2-10-2 AHA) comes into the weekend seeking their first win of 2025. Dustin Geregach leads the team offensively with 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists), while Riley Fitzgerald has tallied a team-high 7 goals.  Mickey Burns is second on the team in points with 13.   

In goal, Carter McPhail has been a standout for the Lakers, posting a .914 save percentage across 12 starts. Special teams will be a focus, as the Lakers' power play is converting at 19.4% on the season. 

A Look at Army 

The Black Knights (5-15-0, 5-8-0 AHA) sit just above Mercyhurst in the Atlantic Hockey standings. Army is led by Mac Gadowsky, who has recorded 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) this season. Brent Keefer and Nik Hong have also contributed offensively, with 9 and 7 points, respectively. 

Goaltender JJ Cataldo has been a bright spot for Army, boasting a .925 save percentage and a 2.30 goals-against average in 14 appearances. The Black Knights' penalty kill has been effective, operating at 89.4%.
