Lakers Ready for More Conference Play

1/9/2025 10:20:00 AM

Erie, Pa.- Last week, the Mercyhurst Men's Basketball team began their first ever season of NEC play. In their first ever NEC game, the Lakers took down Stonehill to mark their first Division I conference win. They'll be looking to make history this week as well, as they aim to get their first road conference win at the Division I level.

Conference Battling:
Mercyhurst sits at 1-1 in conference play after the first week of action. The Lakers picked up a big win over Stonehill that included impressive performances from Graduate Student Jeff Planutis and Senior Aidan Reichert. The duo combined for 45 points in the 76-69 comeback win. Both were named NEC Prime Performers for last week's efforts. The pair has accounted for 463 points through 17 games and the Lakers will look to lean on them as they prepare for St. Francis and Le Moyne.

Scouting Saint Francis:
Saint Francis currently sits at 5-11 and they played some tough opponents to begin the season. They also dropped their first two conference games, which were played against Central Connecticut State and Stonehill. They'll be counting on a big game from Bobby Rosenberger III, who leads them in points this season. The Lakers will also be looking to shut down Jeremy Clayville, who has sunk 35 three pointers this season already. Saint Francis is hungry for their first conference win, and they'll be hoping to get it before they have to hit the road for three straight games.

Scouting Le Moyne:
Le Moyne also walks into the week with a 5-11 record, but they've only had one conference matchup to this point. They fell to LIU on the road 78-62 last weekend. As they head into their matchup with FDU on Friday, they're currently on a three-game losing streak. Dwayne Koroma has been their biggest threat on offense as he's averaged 11.7 points in 16 games to this point. The Lakers will be looking to shut him down as they aim to take the first ever matchup between Le Moyne and Mercyhurst.

 Next Game:
Mercyhurst will go on the road for four straight games, and the first comes this Friday at Saint Francis. The action kicks off at 7:00 p.m.. It can all be seen on the NEC Front Row.
