1/5/2025 3:25:00 PM

Box Score Erie, Pa.- After a historic night on Friday, the Lakers once again took the court against Central Connecticut State looking for back-to-back NEC wins. Unfortunately, a slow second half saw them suffer their first ever NEC loss in a 62-50 decision.

How it Happened:
Graduate Student Jeff Planutis and Senior Aidan Reichert picked up right where they left off on Friday as a pair of three pointers and a field goal from Reichert had the Lakers up 8-4 early. An 11-0 run that spanned six minutes saw the Lakers playing catch up 10 minutes into the first period, however. Sean Lang finally stopped the bleeding for Mercyhurst with a layup. The score kick started an offense that was looking for some momentum. Reichert then led the charge with three baskets to help Mercyhurst score 17 points in the final seven minutes of the half. The frenzy saw Mercyhurst walk into the break with a one point lead.

The Blue Devils came out of the locker rooms hot though, as they scored on their first three possessions to open the period. It helped kick off a 17-4 run for Central Connecticut, but just as they thought they were going to pull away, Mercyhurst went on a 10-1 run that included five points from Max Jusianiec. But in the final four minutes, the Lakers were held without a field goal as the Blue Devils coasted to a 62-50 win.

Highlights:
Planutis and Reichert continue to be in the highlights for Mercyhurst. Reichert played 29 minutes in the matchup and scored 15 points and Planutis dropped 10 points and grabbed eight boards. In a game that featured a lot of runs, it felt like momentum could swing back in the Lakers favor any time one of them had the ball. The Lakers will look to bounce back when they get back in action on Friday night.

Next Game:
Mercyhurst will return to the road for four straight games, with the first being in Loretto, Pa. against Saint Francis. The Lakers will be looking to get themselves back into the win column starting at 7:00 p.m. this upcoming Friday. It can all
