1/30/2025 12:00:00 PM

Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team returns to Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) action this weekend as they travel to Robert Morris for a two-game series.  The Lakers will look to bounce back from a challenging stretch, while the Colonials aim to climb the conference standings.

History

The Colonials have the edge in the all-time series 20-15-10 over the Lakers.  The Lakers are 6-10-4 all-time on the road in the series history.  The Colonials are winners of four of the last five meetings, including their most recent matchup earlier in the season.  Dustin Geregach netted a pair of goals in the 5-2 loss to the Colonials.

Laker Outlook

Mercyhurst (3-20-3, 3-13-2 AHA) is searching for momentum after a tough stretch against Army West Point and Niagara. The Lakers' offense has been led by Dustin Geregach, who has 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists), while Mickey Burns and Steven Agriogianis have each contributed 13 points this season.

In goal, Carter McPhail has posted a .909 save percentage and has had several key performances despite facing a high volume of shots. Special teams remain an area of focus, as Mercyhurst is converting 20.0% of their power plays while allowing opponents a 28.6% success rate.

A Look at Robert Morris

Robert Morris (9-14-3, 6-10-2 AHA) comes into the series after dropping a weekend set against Army West Point and a makeup game against Canisius. The Colonials have been led by Tanner Klimpke, who has recorded 20 points (8 goals, 12 assists), and Walter Zacher, who leads the team with 12 goals. Michael Craig has also been an offensive catalyst, contributing 18 points.

In net, Croix Kochendorfer has started 17 games, posting a 2.93 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. The Colonials' power play has been effective, converting at 21.7%, while their penalty kill operates at 76.8%.

What to Watch For

  • Offensive Leaders: Geregach, Burns, and Agriogianis will look to be key contributors if the Lakers want to steal a series on the road.

  • Goaltending Matchup: McPhail will need to be sharp against a Colonials offense that has been finding the net consistently.

  • Special Teams Battle: Both teams have struggled defensively on the penalty kill, so power-play opportunities could be decisive.

Next Up

Following the series against Robert Morris, the Lakers will stay in AHA play as they prepare for a home series against AIC.
