Van Schaik Leads Lakers to 2nd Victory Over LIU

Brooklyn, NY - The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team dominated the LIU Sharks yet again, 73-58. Jenna Van Schaik led the charge with her first career double-double and career-high performance in rebounds.

How It Happened:

The Lakers had a stand-out performance once again against LIU this afternoon, coming out fired up from the first whistle. Once Mercyhurst's Jenna Van Schaik hit a buzzer-beater three going into half, it was over for the Sharks from there. 

Star of the show, Van Schaik, had her first-ever double-double today, earning 25 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, leading the team in points, rebounds, three-pointers made, and free-throws made. 

Mercyhurst was in the lead, starting from the final 3 minutes of the 2nd quarter, and holding it until the end of the game.

Coming out of the break leading by 3 points, 37-34, Allyson Ross pulled up from distance to get scoring started in the 3rd quarter. A steal from Lekeuneu immediately after, drawing an LIU timeout. The Lakers continued the attack, sinking threes and combining under the net to put up shots from the paint as well. Mercyhurst shot at 85.2% from the free throw line, with two Lakers shooting at 100% respectively, Quinn Borroni and Singo Lekeuneu

Mercyhurst's largest lead of the game came by the final whistle as they led by 15 points, winning 73-58.

Highlights:

Mercyhurst sunk 6 3-point shots today, 4 of which were made by Jenna Van Schaik, the team's leader in stats.

3 Lakers scored in double digits, Jenna Van Schaik (25), Bailey Kuhns (18), and Allyson Ross (10).
