Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey team faced a tough opponent in the No. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on Tuesday evening, falling 5-1 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The loss to the Buckeyes snapped the Lakers' six-game winning streak.
How It Happened:
Ohio State set the tone in the first period, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead. Joy Dunne opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 15:18, assisted by Jocelyn Amos and Emma Peschel. Jenna Buglioni added a penalty shot goal at 18:16.
The Buckeyes extended their lead early in the second period with Kiara Zanon's goal at 0:49, assisted by Makenna Webster. Mercyhurst responded at 3:53 when Marielle Parks scored her fifth goal of the season, with assists from Sofia Ljung and Regina Metzler. Ohio State regained their three-goal cushion at 7:56 with an even-strength goal by Jordyn Petrie.
In the third period, Ohio State sealed the victory with Mira Jungåker's goal at 8:22, assisted by Webster and Grace McCoshen.
