1/20/2025 11:19:00 AM

New Castle, De.- The Mercyhurst Women's Bowling team returned to the hardwood this past weekend when they traveled to Delaware to compete against 37 other teams in the Northeast Classic. The Lakers finished 26th overall, but some impressive play from the girls as they returned from a two month break.

How it Happened:
The Lakers played four games in day one as they battled Sam Houston State, Morgan State, Duquesne and Maryville. Mercyhurst started day one with a matchup against Sam Houston State and they fell 994 to 872. They also dropped their second game to Morgan State 973 to 883. But they grabbed their first win of the Northeast Classic against a familiar foe in Duquesne. They took down the Dukes 939 to 877 before they fell to Maryville 1,083 to 991. In their fifth baker matchup, the Lakers dropped a narrow contest to Kutztown University 995 to 990.

In the traditional portion of the classic, the Lakers opened up things against Holy Family University and they snagged their final win of the weekend 956-782. They dropped their final four matchups of the weekend, but they saw a lot of encouraging play as they tried to shake off some rust from the two month break.

Freshman Tia Germanich had the highest finish of the weekend for Lakers. She placed 62nd as she rolled an average of 198.60 and rolled a high of 211 in her fourth game. Senior Delaney Whitehead finished 73rd with an average of 191.40 and had a high of 224 in her fifth and final game of the weekend. Freshman Mackensie Livingston finished 104th as she averaged 181.80.

Next Match:
Mercyhurst will get back to action on February 7th when they travel to the Mount Shootout hosted by Mount St. Mary's. They'll then compete in the second NEC meet of the season the next week.
