DeKalb, IL- The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team had their three-win streak come to an end as they fell to the Northern Illinois Huskies by a narrow score of 1-0.
How it Happened
The Lakers were stunned as the Huskies were aggressive straight from the kickoff of the game. The Huskies put together at least eight quick passes before Jose Gomez found Taylor Davis open at the back post to finish off what was an admittedly excellent sequence of play just 26 seconds into the game. After that, it was a pretty tight game of back-and-forth play as neither side had a single shot on target in the first half after the early goal
.
The Lakers then had four times as many shots as the Huskies in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net. The Huskies had a tremendous game defensively as they were able to handle the heavy offensive pressure from the Lakers. This is only the second time the Lakers have been shut out all season. The first was to a very good Pitt Panthers side where they only lost 2-0.
Highlights
Dylan Sumner lead the team in shots with five.
Dylan Sumner remains the only Laker to play in every minute of every game.
