Lakers and Fighting Scots Settle for Split

Erie, PA- Back on their home turf, the Mercyhurst Softball team hosted the Fighting Scot's of Edinboro University this afternoon and came away with another split, winning game one 4-0, and losing game two in extra innings, 5-4. The Lakers are now 9-18 overall and 4-7 in conference play

How it Happened:

Game One

The Lakers hit the ground running in game one, taking a 2-0 lead after one inning of play. Neena Pietripaolo singled in the first, which was followed up by an Eliza Reynolds single and a Bailey Cannon RBI double. Reynolds and Cannon then came around to score after a Brianne Egelston walk and an Edinboro error.

Mercyhurst added an insurance run in the bottom of the 5th inning to make the score 4-0 as Brianne Egelston walked, stole second, and came around to score off a Marisa Cartellone single.

Alexa North was stellar from within the circle, throwing a complete game shutout while scattering 5 hits and striking out 3.

Bailey Cannon went 2-3 for the Lakers and recorded an RBI. Brianne Egelston, Francesca Latino, and Marisa Cartellone also drove in runs in the win.

Game Two

Mercyhurst started strong in game two, taking the lead once again in the third inning thanks to a 2 RBI single from Eliza Reynolds. The single plated Kacie Irwin and Cameryn Mullaly, who also singled in the inning. A third run crossed in the 5th as Madison Fry-Fachet tripled and scored from a Neena Pietripaolo single.

Edinboro stormed all the way back to tie the game in the 6th inning on three hits. As the game went into extra innings, the Fighting Scot's tallied two more in the top of the 8th to make the game 5-3. Despite a valiant effort in the bottom half, the Lakers fell 5-4.

Francesca Latino, Eliza Reynolds, and Neena Pietripaolo all recorded a pair of hits in the loss.

Morgan Hilty had a solid start, tossing 5 innings while only allowing 1 run and struck out 4.
