Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Softball team welcomed the Golden Eagles of Clarion University this afternoon for a mid-week doubleheader. Game one went to the Golden Eagles, 5-1, while game two favored the Lakers, 11-0.
How it Happened:
Game One
To begin the game, Clarion scored an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead. Madison Fry-Fachet doubled to lead off the bottom half of the inning but was stranded on 2nd base. The Golden Eagles added two more in the 3rd to extend their lead to 3-0.
Alexa North worked a scoreless 4th, and the Lakers were able to get on base in the bottom half, thanks to a single off the bat of Eliza Reynolds. No runs passed however, as the score remained 3-0.
Clarion added some insurance in the 4th, extending the lead to 4. Bailey Cannon finally got the Lakers on the board in the 6th with a homerun over the right field wall to bring Mercyhurst within 3. Clarion made up for the run in the 7th to regain a 4-run lead, which held firm for a final score.
Highlights
Bailey Cannon homered in the loss. Kacie Irwin collected 2 hits. Madison Fry-Fachet and Marisa Cartellone each doubled. Alexa North struck out 5 in the defeat.
Game Two
Morgan Hilty got the nod in game two and was effective to start the game. Madison Fry-Fachet again led off the game with a hit. Fry-Fachet then stole second and came around to score on a fielder's choice. Eliza Reynolds added another run, scoring off an error to make the score 2-0 after the first.
Francesca Latino kept the Lakers going in the 2nd inning, leading off with a single. A beautiful sacrifice bunt by Neena Pietripaolo allowed Latino to advance, and the Lakers added on with hits by Madison Fry-Fachet, Kacie Irwin, and Brianne Egelston to make the score 6-0.
Morgan Hilty helped herself in the bottom of the 3rd with a leadoff double, which sparked 5 more runs, highlighted by another Bailey Cannon bomb, her second of the day. Morgan Hilty continued to keep the Golden Eagle bats quiet in the 4th and 5th as the Lakers came away with a win in 5 innings, 11-0.
Highlights
Bailey Cannon went yard again in game two on her way to a 3RBI game. Madison Fry-Fachet recorded 3 hits in the win. Morgan Hilty threw a complete game shutout, scattered 3 hits, while striking out 3.

The Lakers will remain home and will return to action this Friday, April 12th, as they host California University of Pennsylvania. The Doubleheader is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
