Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team hosted #13 Seton Hill for a top-15 matchup, and a rematch of last year's GMAC title game. The Lakers outlasted the Griffins 13-12 and extended their winning streak to four games.
How it Happened
The Lakers jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after goals from Ryan Mahoney, Darin Santos, and Chase Petschke. The Lakers went on the advantage early in the second quarter and Colin Tardif took advantage, finding the back of the net. After the goal, the Lakers won the face-off and Tardif scored again. The Lakers held a 5-1 lead. The Griffins got two goals before halftime, cutting the Lakers lead down to 5-3. The Lakers got two quick goals by Chase Petschke and Kevin Sprague to start the third quarter. The Griffins didn't go away, scoring two goals to keep the deficit at two. Ethan Landymore found the back of the net before the end of the third quarter to make it 11-8 in favor of the Lakers. Early in the fourth quarter the Griffins got two quick goals to get within one. Ethan Landymore scored two huge goals to extend the lead back to three. The Griffins got those two goals back just minutes later. Holding a 13-12 lead late in the fourth quarter, the Lakers defense stood tall and kept the Griffins from tying the game.
