Winter Haven, FL- The Mercyhurst Softball team began their Florida trip today with games against Dominican University and Winona State University. After taking care of business this morning with a 6-4 win over the Chargers, the Lakers were rained out of their game with Winona State with a makeup date to be determined. Mercyhurst is now 2-3 on the season.
How it Happened
Madison Fry-Fachet got things started for the Lakers in the first inning, eventually scoring as Neena Pietripaolo stole second after hitting a single. Brianne Egelston then singled home Pietripaolo before scoring off a sacrifice fly from Alexandra Acosta-Reyes.
The 3-0 lead held firm until the fourth inning, which is when Dominican plated two runs. Mercyhurst answered right back in the fifth however as Egelston, Cartellone, and Reyes came around to score to make it 6-2.
Dominican scored two more in their half of the 5th, but the Lakers locked them down for the remaining two innings to escape with a 6-4 lead.
Mikaela Schramski threw 4.2 innings for the Lakers scattering 4 hits while striking out 7. Bailey Cannon finished things out, keeping the Chargers scoreless.
Brianne Egelston found the bases all four times, went 3-3 from the plate, scored twice, and smacked a double in the win. Eliza Reynolds also had two hits in the win and collected 2 RBI's

The Lakers will be back in action tomorrow, March 4th, as they get set to take on the College of Saint Rose and the University of Mary. Games are set for 10AM and 12:30 PM.
