Lakers Drop Two to Crimson Hawks

Indiana, PA-The Mercyhurst Softball team continued their busy week with a doubleheader in Indiana, PA this afternoon. Mercyhurst fell to the Crimson Hawks in game one, 12-4, and dropped game two, 9-1. The Lakers are now 6-15 on the season and 2-4 in conference play.

How It Happened

Game One

The Lakers struck first in game one, as Marisa Cartellone connected with an RBI double to score Alexandra Acosta-Reyes, who got on with a walk. IUP quickly answered in the 2nd and 3rd innings with 10 runs of their own to take a commanding lead heading into the 4th.

Morgan Hilty did all she could to keep the Lakers afloat in the 4th as she hit a solo shot to make the score 10-2. Eliza Reynolds and Lauren Albert then came through in the 5th to keep the Lakers alive by driving in another run a piece to make the score 11-4. That was all Mercyhurst could muster in game one, as IUP took a 12-4 win in the 6th.

Marisa Cartellone continued to stay hot, recording two hits in the loss. Morgan Hilty also had a pair of hits, which included a home run.

Game Two

It was more of the same in game two, as IUP tallied 7 runs in the first two innings of play. Lauren Albert again helped the Lakers remain competitive offensively, driving in the only run of the game in the top of the 3rd inning.

IUP was able to quiet the Laker bats, allowing only 2 hits in the night cap. The only other hit, aside from Albert's, came from Kacie Irwin. IUP was able to take game two in 5 innings, 5-1.
