Box Score 2 Johnstown, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Softball team hit the road for a battle against UPJ. The Lakers were able to come away with a split in the doubleheader.
The Lakers dropped game one of the doubleheader by a score of 8-7. Bailey Cannon had a double, a single, and a run scored. Madison Fry-Fachet reached on an error and would eventually come around to score, grounded into a fielders choice and came around to score on a Kacie Irwin single, and singled late in the game. The Lakers made a push in the top of the seventh inning, but ended up falling one run short.
After the game one loss, the Lakers bounced back with a 16-12 win in high scoring game. The Lakers scored three runs in the first inning, and seven runs in the second inning. Madison Fry-Fachet, Neena Pietripaolo, and Eliza Reynolds all crossed the plate in both innings. In the third inning, Eliza Reynolds singled, Bailey Cannon drew a walk, and Marisa Cartellone reached on an error. All three came around to score. The Lakers kept the pedal down as UPJ kept pace with the Lakers throughout. The Lakers were able to outscore UPJ and get a game two win.
The Lakers will return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Edinboro for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 2:30 PM, followed by game two at 4:30 PM.
