How it Happened

The men started off doubles play the way they had hoped as Ben Davis and Lukas Cabue Valverde came away with a 6-1 win out of the two spot while Derek Winsnes and Mykhailo Polishchuk followed with a 6-2 win to secure the first point of the contest.

In singles play, Davis was the first to finish, helping push the Laker's lead out to 2-0 with his 6-0, 6-2 win at the three spot while Colm Schultz added on with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Millersville was able to come away with one win as they grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the top spot in singles, but that was all they could muster.

After suffering their lone loss of the contest, Mercyhurst got back to their winning ways with a victory at the two spot by Cabue Valverde. The Laker had to work hard for his victory, needing three sets to get the win. Sviatoslav Koliadynski was next to finish for the Lakers as their number six with a 6-3, 6-3 win while Polishchuk rounded out the group with a 6-2, 6-4 win.

The women got the clean sweep in doubles play to help them grab the first point of their match. Kiersten Brown and Valentine Budin got things started with a convincing 6-1 win as the Laker's number three tandem before Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy followed with a win by the same score to clinch the points. Daria Rogova and Sara Bertolez Puente finished things out with a win of their own, needing to work a little harder for theirs compared to their teammates in the 7-5 final.

Singles play began in dominant fashion for the Lakers with them winning each of the first five decisions. Murphy was the first to finish when going solo as the team's number three in a nearly flawless 6-0, 6-1 win. She was followed by Dean who played as the top spot for Mercyhurst, making it a 3-0 advantage for the Lakers in her 6-1, 6-1 victory. It was Rogova who ended up clinching the win for the Lakers with the freshman grabbing a 6-2, 6-4 win as the number two.

From there, Budin grabbed a convincing win of her own with a 6-2, 6-2 final before Bertolez Puente grabbed the final win of the day for Mercyhurst in her 6-2, 7-5 win.
