Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Jacob Ennett: Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

Lakers Blank Lindenwood 3-0

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team hosted Lindenwood in their final home series of the regular season. The Lakers led from start to finish in a 3-0 win over the Lions.  

How it Happened 

In this CHA matchup, the Lakers got on the board first. At 12:29 in the period, Vanessa Upson gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Just a few minutes the Lakers extended their lead. This time off the stick of Olivia Cvar. Henlee Mahoney was able to find a cutting Cvar for the goal, after Chantal Ste-Croix found Mahoney at the opposite blue line. After one period of play, the Lakers led the Lions 2-0. 

After a scoreless second period, the Lakers got on the board early in the third period. A scramble in front of the net saw a goal come off the stick of Henlee Mahoney. The puck just got past the goaltender for Mahoney's second career goal. The Lakers only allowed one shot on goal in the entire third period.  

Goaltending 

Ena Nystrøm stopped 12 shots between the pipes. Her 12 saves brings her season total to 839.  

Nystrøm also earned her sixth shutout of the season. 

Natalie Ferenc stopped 36 shots for Lindenwood.    

Highlights 

Vanessa Upson scored her 12th goal of the season, while winning 23 of 26 face-offs.    

Olivia Cvar scored her 8th goal of the season, while adding her 12th assist as well. 

Henlee Mahoney recorded her second career assist in the first period and her second career goal in the third.    

Megan McKay and Mary Sweetapple each recorded an assist. For McKay it was her 14th of the season, and for Sweetapple it was her fourth.  

Chantal Ste-Croix tallied assists number seven and eight. 

The Lakers outshot the Lions 39-12.
