Mercyhurst Readies for Visit From RIT

Erie, Pa. — Mercyhurst will return home to host AHA leaders RIT for a two game set this weekend, looking to get back on track after a tough Robert Morris series.

Matchup History vs RIT
Mercyhurst has seen their AHA foe 58 times in program history, accumulating a record of 19-33-6 against the Tigers. The Lakers took a visit to RIT earlier this season, to which they split the series, notably getting head coach Rick Gotkin's 600th career win. They faced each other four times last season, all in Rochester with the Lakers going 0-3-1, losing the last three meetings. Although Mercyhurst is undefeated in their last five matches at home against them dating back to 2018.

Recap
Mercyhurst played Robert Morris in a home and home series this past weekend. The Lakers went down early in game one at the Mercyhurst Ice Center and despite their comeback efforts in the match, fell 5-2. The next day they were down at RMU and were hot to start the game. They scored three goals through the first two periods, but Robert Morris stuck around with the score at 3-2 going into the final period. Two goals within four minutes sunk Mercyhurst at a 4-3 final, seeing the Colonials take both games.

A Look at the Tigers
It's the 25th season for Wayne Wilson as the head coach of the Tigers, who ranks in the top 50 winningest coaches in NCAA history. RIT had six new roster additions coming into the season, five of which are freshman. The one transfer that came in was goaltender Luke Lush from Sacred Heart. Gianfranco Cassaro and Elijah Gonsalves lead the team in goals with 12 each. Cody Lakosky and Aiden Hansen-Bukata lead them in assists at 17 each, Lakosky also leads in points with 28. Goalie Tommy Scarfone has 732 saves and a .929 save percentage.

Puck drop for game one in Erie set for Friday, February 10th at 7:00 pm and 4:00 pm for game two on Saturday, February 11th as well.
