Men's Lacrosse Set for Home Opener

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team is set for their first home game of the season when they take on Wilmington this Saturday.  The Lakers are off to an 0-2 start and are looking for that first win of the Trey Keeley era. 

History Lesson 

The Lakers and Wildcats met a season ago in Wilmington, and Lakers came away with a 15-8 win over the Wildcats.  This will be only the second meeting between these two teams.     

Last Time Out 

The Lakers traveled to #9 Indy this past weekend and suffered an 8-7 loss to the Greyhounds.  The Lakers trailed the entire game by multiple goals, but the Lakers made a comeback to get within a goal, but they ran out of time and couldn't complete the comeback.  Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre and Colin Tardif both scored twice in the loss.  The Lakers also got goals from Ethan Landymore, Ryan Mahoney, and Colin SchmatzBrett Olney made 16 saves in net but suffered the loss.  The Lakers were 21-21 on clears in the game.     

Stats Leaders 

Four players are tied for the team lead in goals with two (Ryan Mahoney, Jeremi Phoenix-Lefebvre, Colin Schmatz, and Colin Tardif). Mahoney leads the team in assists with three, points with five, and shots on goal with seven.  Brett Olney is 0-2 in net with a .588 save percentage, and 30 saves.       

A Look at the Opponent 

The Wildcats have not played a game yet this season.  A year ago, they went 6-7 overall and 5-2 in the CACC.  They lost their first game in the CACC tournament to Chestnut Hill, 12-8.  The Wildcats return their leading scorer from a season ago.  Logan Stinson finished 2023 with 47 goals and 17 assists for 64 points.  Jacob Herman, their leader in assists from a season ago is also back for the Wildcats.
