Lakers Hit the Road for Two-Game Set with AIC

Springfield, Ma. - The Mercyhurst Men's Ice Hockey team is set for a two-game set with American International College.  After snapping a nine-game losing streak, the Lakers will look to finish the regular season strong before heading into the AHA tournament.  

History Lesson 

The Lakers are 2-5 in their last seven games with the Yellow Jackets, including a loss in the AHA semifinal in the 2021-22 season.  In the only matchup between the Lakers and the Yellow Jackets a season ago, the two split the series.   

Last Time Out 

In game one with RIT, the Lakers led 5-3 after two periods of play.  A goal by RIT cut the lead to 5-4, but the Lakers responded with a goal by Boris Skalos.  RIT scored three unanswered goals including the game winner with 12 seconds left in overtime.  The Lakers bounced back with a 3-2 win in game two.  After two periods of play, the game was tied 1-1 The Lakers outscored RIT 2-1 in the third period.  Keanan Stewart, Marko Reifenberger, and Mickey Burns were the goal scorers in the win.     

Stats Leaders 

Boris Skalos leads the team in goals with 12 and is tied for the team lead in points with 21.  Philip Waugh is second in goals with 10.  Steven Agriogianis leads the team in assists with 16 and is tied for the team lead in points with 21.  Owen Say is 7-13-3 in net with a .912 save percentage, a 3.26 GAA, and 754 saves.   

A Look at the Opponent 

The Yellow Jackets are 14-14-2 overall and 10-10-2 in the AHA.  John Lundy leads the team in goals with 12.  Dustin Manz leads the team in assists with 21, and points with 25.  Nils Wallstrom is 13-10-1 in net with a .905 save percentage, 2.57 GAA, and 565 saves.  The Yellow Jackets are averaging 3.0 goals per game and 29.7 shots on goal per game.
