Buffalo, N.Y. - Mercyhurst women's tennis took the trip north to see the University at Buffalo to see the Bulls. Despite their best efforts, the Lakers were unable to come away with the win as they fell 7-0 to move to 1-1 on the year.
How it Happened
Doubles play ended up going the way of the Bulls with Buffalo controlling things from the outset. Kayla Dean and Roisin Murphy found themselves at the top spot with a tough task across the court as they eventually fell 6-2 while Valentine Budin and Kiersten Brown were downed by the same score as the team's third paring. Sara Bertolez Puente and Daria Rogova rounded out the group of doubles as the number two in a 6-1 decision they finished on the wrong side of.
Singles play was more of the same as Buffalo had secured the momentum with their work in doubles play. Dean served as the Laker's number one when going solo and ended up putting up a good fight in her first set, falling 6-4 but eventually fell 6-1 in the second to make it 2-0 in favor of the Bulls. Murphy saw a similar fate at number two with her falling 6-0, 6-1 to be one of five different Lakers to fall in two stanzas.
The lone Laker to win a set was Daria Rogova who played out of the three spot in singles. The freshman came out of the gates as the aggressor in her matchup and got a hard-fought 6-4 win to start her day. Her counterpart ended up making the right adjustments in the second as the score was evened up on a 6-0 second set before Buffalo ended up taking a 10-2 win in the third to help them complete the sweep.
