Toledo, Oh. - Mercyhurst Falls to the Toledo Rockets in a tight game with a final score of 70-66.
How It Happened:
Mercyhurst came out in this evening's game scoring consistently from the start.
Cici Hernandez and
Jenna Van Schaik opened the scoring run with back-to-back three-pointers. The Lakers kept up the momentum with two more three-pointers made by
Allyson Ross and
Bailey Kuhns. Kuhn's lead the scoring effort in the first quarter, totaling eight. Van Schaik followed with five points, not only scoring but earning two rebounds and two assists as well.
Scoring slowed for Mercyhurst in the second quarter, however impact plays were made by
Allyson Ross and
Bailey Kuhns. Ross scored a clutch three whilst Kuhns made three layups over the course of the ten minutes. Toledo took the lead in this quarter although the Lakers only trailed by ten. The score going into halftime was 34-28, with the Lakers trailing.
Coming out of the break, Mercyhurst picked the intensity back up, finding success from distance and making some great plays defensively. Four Lakers scored three-pointers this quarter;
Bailey Kuhns,
Allyson Ross,
Jenna Van Schaik, and
Singo Lekeuneu. The three made by Lekeuneu was crucial, making it a three-point game going into the fourth quarter. The final score of the third quarter was 54-51, Toledo out in front.
Quarter four proved to be just as efficient for the Lakers in the final quarter of the game.
Erica Hall got on the board this quarter, scoring a layup early. Kuhns and Ross were also key contributors from the paint, Ross also having multiple rebounds and a block. Despite their efforts, Mercyhurst fell to Toledo in a close game.

Allyson Ross were tonight's leading scorers, Kuhns totaling 25 points and Ross with 19. Kuhns also led in rebounds with 4 while
Jenna Van Schaik led in assists with 7.
