Lakers Host AHA Leader Bentley For Two-Game Set

Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team returns to action with a weekend series against the Bentley Falcons. The two-game series will take place at the Mercyhurst Ice Center, with puck drop scheduled for Friday at 7:00 PM and Saturday at 5:00 PM. 

History 

Bentley leads the all-time series over the Lakers 17-15-3 and has won eight of the last nine matchups including both matchups a season ago.  The Lakers boast a record of 4-6-2 at home during the series history.  The Lakers will look to snap a three-game losing streak to Bentley.   

Laker Outlook 

The Lakers (2-13-1, 2-9-1 AHA) are looking to snap a four-game winless streak after falling to Canisius last weekend. Offensively, Mercyhurst is led by Dustin Geregach, who has 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) on the season. Mickey Burns has added five goals and six assists, while Boris Skalos has contributed eight points. 

On the defensive side, goaltender Carter McPhail has a .912 save percentage and has made 237 saves in eight starts. Despite their struggles, the Lakers have shown resilience on special teams, converting at 20% on the power play and scoring two short-handed goals this season. 

A Look at Bentley 

The Falcons (9-5-1, 8-2-0 AHA) are currently sitting atop the Atlantic Hockey standings and are coming off a sweep of Air Force last weekend. Bentley's offense is powered by Ethan Leyh (4 goals, 10 assists) and Oskar Bakkevig, who leads the team in goals with seven. Bentley averages 3.1 goals per game while allowing just 2.2. 

Defensively, goaltender Connor Hasley has been a rock in net, posting a .910 save percentage and four shutouts. The Falcons have also excelled on the penalty kill, operating at 86.6%, while their power play is converting at 19.2%. 

What to Watch For 

  • Key scorers like Dustin Geregach for Mercyhurst and Ethan Leyh for Bentley will look to set the tone offensively. 

  • A goaltending duel between Mercyhurst's Carter McPhail and Bentley's Connor Hasley could determine the series' outcome. 

  • Special teams will play a pivotal role, with both teams showcasing effective power-play units.
