Lakers Fall to the Depaul University Blue Demons in 2nd Game of the SeasonĀ
Chicago, IL. - The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team traveled to Depaul University to take on the Blue Demons in their second game of the season. The Lakers worked until the end, ultimately falling to Depaul 74-53.Ā Ā

How it Happened:Ā Ā
The Lakers opened up scoring with a three-pointer made by Sr. Allyson Ross and another shortly after by Fr. Cici Hernandez. Mercyhurst battled it out for all 10 minutes causing several turnovers and working hard on and off the ball. The first quarter ended 21-16, with the Blue Demons leading.Ā Ā
MercyhurstĀ started hot justĀ thirty-seconds into the 2nd quarter, sinking two free throws by Bailey Kuhns. DePaul also came out of the break with some intensity, scoring 13 points and taking advantage of multiple turnovers in the first two minutes. Despite the Blue Demons lead, the Lakers still capitalized on some crucial plays such as a great assist by Kuhns to freshman guard, Cici Hernandez who scored her second threeĀ of the afternoon. The score going into half was 46-25, DePaul leading.Ā Ā
The Lakers continued their hard work in the third quarter. Graduate student, Grace Clary stepped on, ready to make an impactĀ and scored a critical threeĀ in the first minute. She was assisted by Jr.Ā Jenna Van Schaik, the Lakers leading scorer today. Mercyhurst's intensity proved tricky for DePaul as they called an early timeout.Ā Ā
The Lakers found consistent success at the free throw line, yet still struggled to close the gap.Ā Ā
In the fourth quarter, Bailey KuhnsĀ got it started for the LakersĀ with two driving layups in the first minute. Hernandez and Van Schaik followed with a jumper and a three, no more than thirty-seconds later. All three girls played critical roles on offense this quarter.Ā Ā
The Lakers efforts were not enough as they fell to the Blue Demons.Ā Ā

Despite the loss, the Lakers put up a great effort in multiple aspects of the game. Mercyhurst lead over DePaul in three-pointers made, free-throws made, and points made on the fast break.Ā Ā
Jenna Van Schaik lead the team in points today with 14, followed by Bailey Kuhns with 13. Allyson Ross lead the team in rebounds, totaling sixĀ for the day.Ā Ā
