Moon Township, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Robert Morris for the second straight day in a 5-0 win over the Colonials. Jorden Mattison was flawless in goal, securing her second straight shutout, while Julia Schalin recorded her first career hat trick to propel the Lakers to 5-7-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play.
How It Happened:
After a scoreless first period, the Lakers took control in the second, starting with a power-play goal from Vanessa Upson at 6:15, assisted by Julia Schalin and Thea Johansson. Shortly after, Thea Johansson extended the lead with a shorthanded, unassisted goal at 14:39. Julia Schalin continued the offensive surge with back-to-back goals, scoring at 16:46 off an assist from Megan McKay and Vanessa Upson, followed by another at 18:57 with assists from Sofia Nuutinen and Mary Sweetapple.
In the third period, Schalin completed her hat trick with a power-play goal at 12:23, assisted again by McKay and Upson, solidifying the Lakers' dominant victory.
