Lakers Shut Out Robert Morris in Game One

Jorden Mattison Picks Up Second Shutout of the Season

Moon Township, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Hockey team returned to the ice to take on the Robert Morris Colonials.  Goaltender Jorden Mattison was stellar in net, recording her second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the Colonials.  The Lakers improved to 4-7-1 overall and 2-1 in AHA play.

How It Happened:

After a scoreless first period, Tristana Tatur opened the scoring for Mercyhurst early in the second period at 2:44, netting her first goal of the season. Sofia Ljung earned the assist on the game-winning goal as the Lakers took a 1-0 lead into the final frame.

The Lakers doubled their advantage in the third period at 15:34 when Regina Metzler found the back of the net, assisted by Makayla Javier and Thea Johansson. Metzler's second goal of the season provided Mercyhurst with a crucial insurance marker.

Robert Morris applied late pressure, pulling their goaltender for an extra attacker in the final minutes, but Jorden Mattison stood tall, making several key saves to preserve the shutout.

Notable Performances:

  • Jorden Mattison stopped all 19 shots she faced to earn her second shutout of the season.

  • Tristana Tatur scored her first goal of the season, and the first of her career, which proved to be the game-winner.

  • Regina Metzler added her second goal of the season, sealing the victory.
