Lakers Wrestling Opens Season in Cleveland

Cleveland, Oh.- The Mercyhurst Wrestling team finally opened up the 2024-2025 season when the traveled to the Bob Del Rosa Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday. The Open, which was hosted by Case Western Reserve University, served as the Lakers first competition as a Division I team.
 
How it Happened:
Travis Browning wrestled at 125 and made it to the quarter finals at his weight. In the round of 16, Browning picked up a big win as he defeated John Carroll's Bobby Tupa. At 141, Colin Scherer and Marcus Colson each dropped their opening matchups and also fell in the consolation bracket. Roland Mills wrestled at 149 and he dropped his match in the championship bracket, but he picked up a pair of wins in the consolation bracket. Mills had a 3-1 win over Evan Reid from Gannon and 17-2 win over RIT's Matthew Grant.
 
Chris Cibrone and Noah Adamson wrestled at 157 in the Freshman and Sophmore bracket. Cibrone won his opening match 15-1 against Ithaca's Michael Fahmie. He also picked up a win in the consolation bracket. Adamson fell in both of his matches. Keith Mincin put together a solid day with a pair of wins. The first came over Cole Kuhar of Ithaca in an 18-6 decision and the second was a 6-1 win over Gannon. Roland Jones wrestled at 197 and fell in both of his matches. At 285, Gino Guerrisi and Joey Baronick made their season debuts and gained some experience. Both fell in their championship and consolation matches.
 
Next Match:
The Lakers will look to grab some more wins next week when they travel to Findlay for the Findlay Open. Action starts next Saturday, November 16th.
