Men's Hockey Opens 2024-25 Season with Bowling Green

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Ice Hockey team opens their 2024-25 season this weekend when they host Bowling Green.  Head Coach Rick Gotkin enters his 37th season behind the bench for the Lakers.  

History 

The Falcons lead the all-time series 5-2, including a 3-0 record in road games in the series history.  The Lakers and Falcons split the series they played a season ago.  The Falcons took game one in overtime, but the Lakers bounced back and took game two. 

Laker Outlook 

The Lakers are coming off a season in which they went 9-22-4 overall and 7-15-4 in AHA play. The Lakers enter their first season in the newly formed Atlantic Hockey America.  Returning for the Lakers are All-Rookie team selections Boris Skalos and Trent Sambrook.  Skalos finished an impressive Rookie campaign, leading the Lakers in goals with 15.  Sambrook finished the year with three goals and ten assists for 13 points.  Also returning for the Lakers is Steven Agriogianis. Agriogianis posted six goals and 17 assists for 23 points. 

A Look at Bowling Green 

The Falcons are coming off a season in which they finished 13-22-1 overall and 11-12-1 in CCHA play.  Brett Pfoh leads all returners in goals from a season ago with nine, and Jaden Grant leads all returners in assists with eleven.  The Falcons also brought back goaltender and All-CCHA Rookie Team selection Cole Moore, who appeared in 25 games, posting a .918 save percentage, 2.87 GAA with 734 saves. 

Next Up 

Following the weekend series against Bowling Green, the Lakers will remain at home when they host RIT for an early season AHA matchup.
