Lakers Fall to FDU in Five Sets

Teaneck, N.J. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team went toe-to-toe with Fairleigh Dickinson in a five-set battle on Saturday afternoon at the Bogota Savings Bank Center but ultimately fell short, losing 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 13-25, 25-17, 13-15). The loss drops the Lakers to 2-12 overall and 1-3 in NEC play, while FDU improves to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in conference action. 

How It Happened: 

Mercyhurst came out strong in the first set, hitting .333 and winning 25-20, with Paige Miller and Andrea Zaric leading the attack. FDU responded by taking the second set 25-20, and then dominated the third set 25-13, limiting the Lakers to a negative hitting percentage. 

The Lakers bounced back in the fourth set, hitting .308 to secure a 25-17 victory, forcing a decisive fifth set. Both teams exchanged points in a closely contested final frame, but FDU edged out Mercyhurst 15-13 to take the match. 

Notable Performances: 

  • Paige Miller led Mercyhurst with 16 kills, hitting .302 and contributing 12 digs. 

  • Kaitlin Murphy hit .357 with 5 kills, 6 total blocks, and 3 service aces. 

  • Alyssa Krause dished out a team-high 23 assists and added 6 digs. 

Up Next: 

After eleven straight road matches, the Lakers will return home for six straight home matches starting next weekend.  The Lakers will host Saint Francis on Friday and Saturday.  The start time for Friday's match is set for 6 PM.
