#15 Lakers Drop Series to #8 St. Lawrence

Canton, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey team came up just short in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. Despite an early goal from Thea Johansson, St. Lawrence rallied with goals in the second and third periods to claim the victory.

How It Happened:

Mercyhurst got off to a quick start, with Thea Johansson scoring just 14 seconds into the game. Assisted by Vanessa Upson, Johansson's goal gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead right out of the gate. The Lakers controlled much of the first period, but St. Lawrence goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordström made key saves to keep the score close.

St. Lawrence tied the game at 7:47 of the second period when Tori Verbeek found the back of the net off an assist from Claire Tyo. The Saints gained momentum as the game wore on, forcing Mercyhurst goaltender Magdalena Luggin to make 35 saves on the day.

The game-winner came late in the third period at 18:25 when Anna Segedi scored, assisted by Melissa Jefferies. Despite a last-minute push from the Lakers, they were unable to find the equalizer with the goaltender pulled.

Notable Performances:
