The Lakers Prepare for Visit to Buffalo

Buffalo, N.Y. — Mercyhurst begins their week on Thursday, January 11th with a trip to Buffalo to take on Canisius for a one game series.

Matchup History vs Canisius
The Lakers have seen Canisius once already this season for a home and home series. Mercyhurst was victorious in both games, winning the first one in Buffalo after coming back 3-0 to send it to a shootout in which they won 1-0. In the return game, the Lakers won 5-1 convincingly, highlighted by a Boris Skalos hat-trick. Since they first met in the 1994/95 season Mercyhurst has the edge over therewith a 46-40-12 record.

Recap
This past weekend, Mercyhurst took a trip up to Fairfield, Connecticut to take on Sacred Heart in a two game set. The Lakers shocked the AHA leaders in game one with a big performance on offense and defense to beat them 7-2. Garrett Dahm and Trent Sambrook both had 3 points in the game, while the defense locked down for a nine and a half minute stretch without five men on the ice to prevent the Pioneers from scoring. In game two, the offense wasn't able to get firing at the same rate as they dropped to Sacred Heart 2-1 for a series split.

Steven Agriogianis and Garrett Dahm are tied to lead the team in assists (11).
Agriogianis leads the team in points (16).

A Look at the Golden Griffins
It's the seventh season in charge for head coach Steven Large. He brought in 13 newcomers to his squad this season, 5 freshmen and 8 transfers. Freshman Matteo Giampa is in the team and AHA lead for goals with 14 as well as leading Canisius in points with 20. Seniors Jackson Decker and Randy Hernandez have the lead in assists for them with 9 each. Transfer goalie from New Hampshire, David Fessenden, leads their squad in saves at 342 and freshman Ethan Robertson leads them in save percentage with .906.

Puck drop at the LECOM Harborcenter on Thursday is set for 7:00 pm.
