Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team defeated Seton Hill this evening to improve their record to 2-1. The Lakers came into the matchup ranked 8th in the Atlantic Region polls, while the Griff's came in at the 6 spot.
How it Happened
Although both squads had their opportunities in the first half, the teams went into halftime with the game tied 0-0. The Lakers didn't waste any time in the second half however as Emily Mijares found the back of the net to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead. Chloe Kalina was credited with the assist.
The Lakers continued their stellar defense throughout the second half and were able to gain some insurance thanks to a goal scored by Camille Bultel. The pass off the foot of Anamari Bosnjak created a freshman-to-freshman connection, which helped each record their first points of their Laker career.
When asked about the team's performance, Head Coach Rich Wall explained that they were able to successfully "finish this one off with two great goals, we've had a slow start in that department so seeing the ball go in a couple of times was a welcomed site."
Highlights
After scoring 3 goals in 2022, Emily Mijares was able to record her first of 2023. Chloe Kalina recorded her first assist of the season as well. Camille Bultel, a freshman from Roubaix, France, scored her first goal as a Laker off a feed from Anamari Bosnjak.
Maddie Elbro led another shut out while recording two saves, and the defense earned praise from Head Coach Rich Wall: "Defensively we were brilliant in all three thirds of the field, our press was effective, and we made things difficult for a good possession-oriented team."

The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, September 9th, as they host Clarion University with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m.
