Men’s Soccer Holds On For 2-1 Win Over Georgian Court

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team are coming off a convincing win in their last matchup and looked to continue that in today's matchup against Georgian Court.  A hard-fought battle saw the Lakers come out on top with a 2-1 win.

How it Happened

Not much action from either side early in the game.  Dylan Sumner was able to snatch the ball from the Georgian Court players and dribble around everybody and take a perfectly aimed shot at the bottom left of the goal, and he baried it.  Sumner gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead.  Halfway through the first half the Lakers led the game in shots 4-0.  The Lakers had a great scoring opportunity as Jorge Tallada Torres found himself with a shot and just missed as he nailed the post.  The score stayed 1-0 in favor of the Lakers.  After a number of free kicks and fouls from both sides, the Lakers were able to hold the first half lead and head to the locker room up 1-0.

The second half started slow, not much action from either side other than a shot by Guilherme de Lima Cunha that hit the crossbar.  Guilherme de Lima Cunha took another shot shortly after that missed just wide of the goal.  Frank Lovett dribbled around the defense and found Andreas Rossak in front of the net, Rossak was able to flip the shot over the defender and the goalkeeper for the goal.  The Lakers now led 2-0 at this point in the game.  After some back and forth on both sides, a penalty gave Georgian Court a penalty kick.  Georgian Court was able to convert the penalty kick and draw closer, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Lakers.  The final seconds ticked off the clock and the Lakers took home the win by a score of 2-1.
