Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Field Hockey recorded their second win of the season in as many games as they defeated Roberts Wesleyan Sunday afternoon. The Lakers were able to jump out to a nice 5-0 lead at the half before securing the 9-0 victory against the Redhawks
How it Happened
Mercyhurst was able to score their first goal of the game in the seventh minute of action with freshman Amy Van Rooyen putting one in the back of the cage, making it a 1-0 game.Â
The score remained there until the second when the Lakers scored four more times. Delfina Magro got things started with an unassisted score in the second minute of the quarter before Jenna Cavalieri followed with her first goal of the game. Rachel Kosowski and Ellie Schau helped keep the pressure on the Redhawks with one goal apiece with Schau getting the assist on Kosowski's score, making it 5-0 at the break.
Cavalieri came out of halftime and scored once more to give her a second score on the day to help extend Mercyhurst's lead out even further, 6-0. Mercyhurst offense did not slow down from there as they managed to add three more goals with all of them coming in the final frame.
Highlights
The Lakers totaled 38 shots in the game with 29 of them being on goal. Cavalieri led the game in with two goals, giving her a team-high five goals in her first two games of the season. Elizabeth Jackson, Amy Van Rooyen, Delfina Macro, and Samantha Myers all got in on the action with goals of their own with Myers collecting an assist as well.
Next Game
Mercyhurst is set to go on the road again as they head to Indiana, Pa. to take on the Crimson Hawks on Wednesday, September 6th, at 7:00 p.m. They then come back home on the 9th to play host to Converse at 11:00 a.m. inside Saxon Stadium.
