Indiana, Pa. - Mercyhurst Field Hockey suffered their first loss of the new season Wednesday evening, moving to 2-1 on the year. Mercyhurst fought hard and was able to get on the board late, but it was not enough in the 3-1 defeat.
How it Happened
IUP was able to jump out in front with a solid first quarter, leading 2-0 at the end of the first 15 minutes. Jess Davidson was the Crimson Hawk who got it done with a pair of unassisted goals. From there, IUP added on to begin the second and make it a 3-0 score. The Lakers started to find some momentum as the half continued to wind down, but were unable to get it done, going into the halftime break down 3-0.
Mercyhurst came out of the break playing their opponent even, having two shots to IUP's five. One of those shots came from Lexi Odrobina in the third, finding the back of the cage with Ava D'Amato and Ellie Schau credited for the assists.
From there, the Lakers got a shot of life, but were turned away by their counterparts through the rest of the game in the 3-1 loss.
Highlights
Odrobina scored her third goal of the season to move into sole possession of third on the team while D'Amato and Schau record their second assists of the season.
