The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team traveled to Indiana, PA this afternoon to take on IUP and came away victorious, winning the match 3-0. With the win, the 23rd ranked team in the nation improved their record to 6-1.
With their sixth consecutive victory, the Lakers have created a name for themselves. Now being nationally ranked and solidifying themselves as one of the top dogs in the region, Rich Wall's squad is clicking on all cylinders.
The Laker defense is a main reason for the team's success. Throughout their six-game win streak, the Mercyhurst Defense has held opponents to only two goals, while scoring 25.
Anamari Bosnjak, Alyssa Poleski, Maycen Anthony, Taryn Baxter, and Maddie Elbro hold it down defensively, with help from many others, and constantly make it difficult for opposing players. In tonight's win, Elbro recorded another shutout, while recording four saves.
Offense has also been plentiful for the Lakers, with production coming from various players so far this season. In today's win, Emily Mijares got the Lakers on the board to give the squad a 1-0 lead. The Brooklin, Ontario native now has three goals for the year. Maycen Anthony and Anna Clarke also joined in on the fun, as each scored their first goals of the season. The score remained 3-0 until the final whistle.
After tying and falling to IUP in the 2022 season, the Lakers got back on track today as they start preparing for a mid-week matchup. On Wednesday, September 27th, the team is back in action and makes a short trip to Edinboro for an evening match. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
