Kutztown, Pa. - Mercyhurst Field Hockey played their lone game of the week against the Golden Bears Saturday morning with the Lakers unable to get the win, falling 5-0. Kutztown managed to stake themselves to an early lead they were unwilling to relinquish it in the 5-0 win.
How it Happened
Kutztown fired their opening salvo of the game in the 14th minute of action, grabbing a lead prior to the end of the opening frame as Breann Craley scored her sixth goal of the season. The Golden Bears did not let up with a pair of goals in the second to help them take a 3-0 lead into the break.
Mercyhurst looked to come out of the locker room and make some noise, but they were denied as Kutztown was in complete control throughout. Kutztown scored just three minutes into the third while finishing things out with their fifth goal of the game in the opening few minutes of the final period of play.
Highlights
Kayla Desormeau was kept busy in the cage as she faced 21 shots on goal on the day. She managed to save 16 of those with at least three in each period, helping the native of Waterloo, Ont. to her most so far this season. Desormeau now has 49 saves on the season to help her crack the top 10 in the country.
