Box Score Mansfield, Pa. - Mercyhurst field hockey got their final week of action in the month of September started off with a loss as they fell to Mansfield Wednesday afternoon. Despite hanging around with their counterpart in the early going, Mercyhurst was unable to get the job done as they fall to 2-6 on the season in 4-0 loss.
How it Happened
It looked like the Mountaineers were going to establish a big lead in the early going as they managed to score their first goal of the game in the first few minutes. The Lakers responded well as their defense tightened up and denied their counterpart the rest of the way in the frame, going into the second only down 1-0.
The Laker's solid defensive effort carried into the second period, helping them keep their counterpart at bay. Mansfield was only able to get off a couple of shots in the frame as Mercyhurst found an answer for the Mountaineers. Despite their great effort on defense, the Lakers couldn't find the board on offense and went into the halftime break down one.
Mansfield was able to make the right adjustments coming out of the locker room and scored their second goal of the game just a few seconds in the third stanza. They managed to add on with just under six minutes to go in the third to make a it 3-0 game with them controlling the ball in their offensive zone for much of the rest of the period.
Mercyhurst's defense proved up to the task in the fourth quarter and managed to slow down Mansfield after giving up the pair of goal in the third. The Lakers did all they could to stave off the Mountaineer's attack, but eventually it proved too much as they scored for the fourth time with just over two minutes to go in the game with the final score standing at 4-0.

Mercyhurst returns home to play within their friendly confines for the first time in two weeks on Saturday, September 30th, when they welcome the West Chester Golden Rams to town for a 11:00 a.m. start.
