Box Score Frostburg, Md. - Mercyhurst Field Hockey got the new week started off on the wrong foot as they dropped their matchup with Frostburg. The Lakers hit the road for this one, falling behind in the early going as it was 2-0 game at the break before the 5-0 final.
How it Happened
The Bobcats managed to be the aggressors to open things up, firing the opening salvo in the first period of play with a goal just over four minutes into the contest. Frostburg was able to control the ball through much of the rest of the period, hoping to add onto their lead, but the Laker's defense held strong to keep it at a one-goal deficit at the end of one.
The second quarter was one where the Lakers started to switch the field and start to go on the attack, recording five shots and three corners in the canto. Despite the adjustments, Mercyhurst was unable to find the back of the cage while the Bobcats extended their lead with a goal at the 8:48 mark of the period and then again at 4:36, going into the locker room up 3-0.
Frostburg did not waste any time to open the second half as they managed to score just under a minute into the the third to make it 4-0 and begin to pull way. The rest of the third quarter was quiet as Frostburg looked to stymie the Lakers and eat up clock. Mercyhurst continued to fight their counterpart through the second half, but were unable to grab the momentum, being shutout for the first time in 2023 in the 5-0 final.
Highlights
Despite not scoring in the game, Mercyhurst fired off 10 shots with Amy Van Rooyen and Delfina Magro both collecting two to lead the team. Kayla Desormeau stayed busy in the cage for the Lakers with her accumulating 10 saves for her second double-digit save effort of the year. She now has 34 saves on the season to help her crack the top 10 in the country.

The Lakers return to their friendly confines for their next game as they are set to host Bloomsburg this Saturday, September 16th, at 12:00 p.m. with Mercyhurst honoring their senior class prior to the game.
