ERIE, Pa. - Mercyhurst Men's Soccer Head Coach Ryan Osborne has accepted a position with the University of Wisconsin's Men's Soccer program.
Osborne will assume the role of Assistant Coach under the direction of second-year Head Coach Neil Jones. The Badgers, who won a National Championship in 1995, compete in the Big-10.
"While I am sad to see Ryan go, I am very proud of the opportunity in front of him at Wisconsin," said Assistant Vice President of Athletics Brad Davis. "In a very short period, Ryan transformed our program into a regional and national powerhouse, and I am very forever grateful for his efforts. We are committed to maintaining the standard he has set for the program and look forward to continued success in the fall."
Since being hired in January 2020, Osborne has transformed the program into a regional and national power, claiming a record of 37-5-3. He has twice been named the PSAC West Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2022. He and his staff were also named the DII Atlantic Region Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches in 2022.
Osborne helped lead the team to their most successful regular season in school history in 2022, posting a 19-1-1 record, including 17-0-1 in the regular season, en route to a PSAC Conference Championship, the program's first since 2016.
Osborne wanted to state, "Mercyhurst has been home to me over the past 3.5 years and I have absolutely loved my time here, the success we've had on and off the field and the relationships that we've made. I am excited for what lies ahead for me and my family at the University of Wisconsin but also to watch the continued growth and success of the men's soccer program here at Mercyhurst." He added, "I would like to thank the players that I've worked with past and present, our staff who have been integral in our success due to there dedication and drive and our administration for not only affording me the opportunity to lead this program back in January 2020, but also for their continued support throughout my time here. I wish Mercyhurst University nothing but the best moving forward and am thankful for my time here."
Mercyhurst has already begun its search for a successor.
