Phoenix-Lefebvre Secures Game-Winner to Advance Team to NCAA Semifinals

ERIE, Pa. - The Men's Lacrosse team won their first NCAA Tournament game since 2013 today, May 14, 2023. 

The final score against the St. Anselm Hawks was 10-9. 

Quarter One

Myles Hamm started the team strong with a two goals at 14:45 and 10:43. Stephen Katz and Casey Scott earned the assists. 

The Hawks came back to score three unanswered at 8:15, 2:42, and 1:16.

The score was 2-3, headed into another 15 minutes of play. Brett Olney made a pair of saves, and the team was perfect on their clears.

Quarter Two

Hats went off to Hamm at 14:11 as he scored his third of the game. It was now a tie at three. 

The Hawks took back the lead at 7:58, but Shawn Doran ran it right back off a faceoff to score the fourth. 

Doran won three faceoffs, and the team claimed ten ground balls. 

Quarter Three

St. Anselm took the lead again at 11:31. Ethan Landymore had other ideas and scored at 10:36 and 6:02 to bring the Lakers in front. 

The score kept going back and forth as St. Anselm tied and led again at 5:04 and 1:49. 

Jérémi Phoenix-Lefebvre made the game a tie once more, 7-7, at 1:09.

The Hawks closed out the quarter with a goal at 00:54.

The Lakers were perfect on their clear and claimed 12 ground balls.

Quarter Four

The tension was getting high as Braden McCard tied the game with a goal at 8:21.

The Hawks took the lead for the last time at 6:18.

Nicholas Mabe was determined to tie the game. He was successful at 4:01.

Phoenix-Lefebvre scored the game-winner at 2:06 to advance the team to the NCAA Semifinals. Colin Tardif was on the assist. 

Highlights

Myles Hamm had a hat trick and six shots on goal.

Brett Olney made 10 saves.

Liam Bogedain and Stephen Katz caused two turnovers each.

On the Horizon

The team will now play #1 Le Moyne in the NCAA Semifinal game. The match is set for 1:00 p.m. on May 21, 2023, in Syracuse, N.Y.
