ERIE, Pa. - It was an Erie rivalry this afternoon as Women's Lacrosse faced the Gannon University Golden Knights.
The Lakers dropped in an vigorous game, 9-10.
Quarter One
It took some time to get on the board, but Maggie Newton struck first at 7:14 on a man-down goal. Whitley Easton grabbed the assist.
The Golden Knights tied it at one on a free position at 5:36.
Victoria Gottorff earned herself a goal at 1:51. This was her 13th of the season.
Gannon struck again late in the quarter to tie it up at two going into the next quarter.
Paige Maneri made two saves while the team picked up five ground balls.
Quarter Two
Gottorff put another unassisted goal on the board at 14:46 to bring the lead back to the Lakers.
The Golden Knights followed right behind with a trio of goals to lead.
Amanda Bailey was able to get one on the board for the Lakers to lessen the deficit to 4-5 at 9:02.
At 5:25 Whitley Easton had an impeccable shot to tie the game back at five.
Gottorff earned her hat trick of unassisted goals at 4:09 to give the Lakers the high ground.
Maneri stayed in the net to save three shots. The Lakers were 100% on the clears and recovered three ground balls.
Mercyhurst led 6-5 going into the half.
Quarter Three
An early goal by Gannon tied the game again. They followed with two more to take the lead, 6-8.
Late in the third, Newton netted her second of the game at 00:56. She was assisted by Gabby McGinn.
The Lakers won three draw controls and the team was, once again, perfect on their clears.
Heading into the fourth the score was 7-8.
Quarter Four
The Lakers were granted a free position shot at 14:09 which allowed Megan Millard to get on the board and tie the game.
Mercyhurst was relentless, allowing Easton to score her second of the game at 7:49. The game was tied again at nine.
Gannon had one more push to score at 5:51 and take the game 9-10.
The Lakers played downn to the very last second. They had three draw controls and the same amount of ground balls.
