Lakers Take Down Gannon

O'Fallon, IL – Mercyhurst Women's Water Polo take down their crosstown rivals, Gannon, and after a great fourth quarter they win the game by a score of 9-6. The Lakers return to the swimming pool tomorrow to take on McKendree at 10:45 a.m. for in the fifth/sixth place matchup in the WWPA Championship Tournament.

How It Happened

The Lakers came back to the McKendree Metro Rec Plex for another important match against the Golden Knights. Gannon started the match well as they scored the first goal of the match, but Sara Marin answered right away as she beat the goalkeeper with a strong shot to the left, 1-1.

Mercyhurst continued in the second as Rachel Vlieststra received a pass from Krista Domaracki and netted another goal, 2-1. Gannon tied the game right away, but Hanna Good took the ball and put her team in the lead again, 3-2.



 

The squad finished the first half well, as Sakura Gavin and Marin both scored in the final minute of the half and the Lakers went into the break winning 5-2.

The second half was once again very competitive as both teams fought for every possession. Gannon managed to make it a one-goal game in the fourth quarter at 7-6. That's when Good took over as she scored two more goals to extend the lead to three, and put the game away, 9-6.

By The Numbers

Hanna Good led the charge with four goals and two steals and she was helped by Rachel Vlieststra and Sara Marin who scored two goals each. Panna Mozbauer only allowed six goals and registered 12 saves in the game for the Lakers.

What's Next

Mercyhurst returns to the pool for one more game against McKendree at 10:45 a.m.
