Lakers Sail Past Malone to Earn 23-8 Victory

CANTON, Oh. - The Men's Lacrosse team headed to the Buckeye State to face the Malone Pioneers today, Apr. 25, 2023.

The Lakers had a day, taking the game 23-8. 

Quarter One

In true Laker fashion, Kevin Sprague netted the first goal of the game less than a minute into play. 

Malone equalized with a goal at 8:05.

David Fiorini snagged back the lead, while Benjamin Schellinger pushed the score to 3-1.

Fiorini earned his second at 4:36.

Malone got their second at 2:48. 

Ethan Landymore, Shawn Doran, and Colin Tardif scored within the final two minutes to make the score 7-3. Malone was in between earning their third.

Doran won all 11 faceoffs in the first. And the team was perfect on their clears.

Quarter Two

Nicholas Mabe dumped one in the net at 14:13 to widen the lead. He was followed by Casey Scott scoring at 9:55.

Fiorini shined and earned his hat trick at 9:13. The score was now 10-3.

Adam Oscarson earned his third of the season at 8:20, assisted by Jackson Saulpaugh. Evan Anstead also put a point on the board to boost the lead to 12-3. 

Sprague claimed his second of the game at 3:58 to take the ten-goal lead. 

With one minute on the clock, the Pioneers earned their fourth. That goal did not stop Ryan Len. He retaliated to keep the double-digit lead at 00:53.

Anstead closed out the half with a goal at 00:21. The score was 15-4 heading into the break.

The team was 10-10 on the faceoff, picked up 16 ground balls, and killed two man-up opportunities for the Pioneers.

Quarter Three

Jérémi Phoenix-Lefebvre was able to put his name on the board at 14:11. Tardif claimed the apple. 

Scott picked up his second and the team's 17th at 11:20. Landymore followed with his second at 9:39. The score was now 18-4.

The Pioneers snuck their fifth goal past, but less than a minute later, Scott earned his hat trick. Blink and you would have missed it, Scott scored again at 1:05. The Lakers still had the lead, 20-5.

With the long stick, Ryan Scoble earned the team's 21st goal in the last minute. 

The team picked up nine ground balls and went 7-7 on the clear.

Quarter Four

Malone scored first in the quarter at 14:32. 

Myles Hamm found his way to the scoreboard with a man-up goal at 12:49. 

The Pioneers earned their seventh at 6:44. Just under three minutes elapsed and Matthew Belles was on the board to bring the score to 23-7. 

Malone wrapped up the scoring with a goal at 00:44. 

Highlights

Casey Scott earned four goals. 

Shawn Doran was 16-17 on the faceoff.

Brett Olney made 10 saves.

On the Horizon

The team will finish the regular season at Wheeling on Apr. 29, 2023. Faceoff is 2:00 p.m.
