Lock Haven, Pa. - Mercyhurst Men's Basketball claims their most all-conference honorees since joining the PSAC this season with four making their way onto the list. Michael Bradley and Jeff Planutis both make it as First Team members while MiyKah McIntosh and Nicholas Lang are named to the Second Team, announced the conference Friday afternoon.
Bradley is named an All-Conference honoree for the first time in his career as he makes it onto the First Team. The native of San Antonio, Tx. proved to be one of the better facilitators in the conference as he ranks second in assists (4.1) while boasting an assist/turnover ratio of 2.8 for tops in the PSAC. His scoring proved big as well as he is second on the team with 14.5 points per game on a 45.6/36.9/86.7Â shooting split. He etched his name in program history multiple times this year, becoming the 16th player to reach 1,000 career points while currently sitting fifth on the all-time assists list.
"Michael had his best year as a Laker and helped us win a lot of games. He always came up big when we needed him and he is very deserving of this award," said Head Coach Gary Manchel.
Planutis was the second Laker to find his name on the All-PSAC First Team list, doing so for the first time as a member of the Lakers. The senior has been the top scorer for Mercyhurst this season, averaging 15.1 points per game on 48.4% from the floor, 43.2% from three, and 91.4% from the free throw line. His scoring was elite in terms of both quantity and efficiency as he is 17th in the PSAC in points per game while his field goal percentage is seventh in the conference and his three-point percentage fourth. He had a number of big games throughout the campaign, scoring 20 or more points eight times to lead the team.
"Jeff has earned everything he has gotten as a Laker and played great in big games," said Manchel when asked about his leading scorer. "I am very happy he has gotten recognized by the PSAC West coaches."
After being named an All-PSAC First Team member in both 2019-20 and 2021-22, MiyKah McIntosh is named to the Second Team this time around. The native of Pickering, On. was a constant for Mercyhurst during his fifth season with the team, averaging 10.5Â points to go along with 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals. McIntosh's season was one where he hit a pair of major milestones as he surpassed 1,500 points for his career while reaching 100 career wins alongside fellow all-conference honoree Nicholas Lang. The graduate guard's time at Mercyhurst has proven to be full of accolades and highlights with this award being another feather in his cap.
"A cumulation of an amazing career at Mercyhurst. Three years in a row as an All-Conference player is a tremendous accomplishment." - Head Coach Gary Manchel
Nicholas Lang is the final member of the recipients as he was named to the All-PSAC West Second Team, making the cut for the first time in his career. The native of New Market, Md. put up his best season to date as he averaged 12.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He joined the 1,000-point club in the team's regular-season finale against Gannon to become the 17th Laker to do so. His feats did not stop there as he became the only player in Mercyhurst history to have 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, and 150 steals for his career, proving to be one of the most well-rounded players in Laker history.
"I am very happy for Nick and glad that the PSAC West coaches saw what I have seen everyday for five years," said Manchel, talking on his graudate gaurd. "He deserves to be with the best players in the West."
The Lakers now eye Shippesnburg after their win in the second round of the PSAC Tournament. Mercyhurst is set to clash with the Raiders on Saturday, March 4th, with a start time of 3:30 p.m.
