CEDAR RAPIDS, IA—Two grapplers from the Mercyhurst Wrestling team earned top-eight finishes at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships on Saturday.
Eric Bartos earned a fourth place finished while
Jake Niffenegger placed seventh.
Senior, Bartos finishes his career as a Laker with a 116-36 record. He this year's Super Region One Champion at 133 lbs. and an All-American. During his outstanding career he has also earned titles of Super Region One Freshman of the year, NWCA All-American Scholar and four-time national qualifier.
The Valley City, Ohio native started the second day of the national tournament with a 10-0 major decision to send him to a bout against Devin Flannery (Millersville). Bartos came out victorious against Flannery for the third time this season to advance. Bartos fell in the third-place bout to finish fourth.
Freshman
Jake Niffenegger is an All-American at 141 as he finished seventh at his first national tournament of his collegiate career.
The frosh dropped a 6-2 decision to start day two of nationals and move him to the seventh-place match which he took by a score of 10-6.
Niffenegger finishes his first year as a Laker with as Super Region One Champion at 141 and a 25-9 record.
