Ena Nystrøm Earns Third Shutout This Season in 3-0 Win Over RIT

Rochester, N.Y. - The Lakers concluded their series with RIT this afternoon, Feb. 4, 2023.

The team secured their spot in the CHA Playoffs with the 3-0 shutout this afternoon.

How it Happened

First Period

A major bounce on the puck allowed Grace Nelles to score the first goal of the game at 8:06. Jordan Mortlock and Megan McKay were there to assist Nelles.

Sara Boucher passed the puck to Chantal Ste-Croix, which allowed her to score a wrister at 17:21.

Second Period

Late in the period, at 18:47, Sydney Pedersen shot the puck at the net, it hit the right crossbar, and lit the lamp. This the blueliner's ninth goal of the season.

Third Period

No goals were scored in the third period, while Ena Nystrøm stopped seven shots on net. 

Highlights

Nystrøm tallied her third shutout of the season, saving 26 shots on goal. 

McKay tallied an assist and blocked four pucks.

Marielle Parks was +3.

Playoff Picture

Mercyhurst is now three points ahead of Syracuse in the CHA standings. They hold on to second place, and are guaranteed a spot to compete in the playoffs.

The Lakers will need to win one game, or sweep next weekend against the Orange to hold that lead.

The top four teams in the CHA will head into the playoffs. The Semi finals will be best-of-three with the top seeds hosting. 

The 2023 CHA Championship will be held on either March 3 or 4, 2023 with it being a single game. 

Next Game

The Lakers will stay on the road next weekend to face Syracuse for the second time in a month. Games are set for Feb. 10 at 6:00 p.m. and Feb. 11 at 3:00 p.m.
