WILMINGTON, Del. - The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team faced the Wilmington University Wildcats this morning, Feb. 25, 2023.
The Lakers absolutely dominated the field, coming out on top, 15-8.
First Quarter
Not even a minute into the game, Ethan Landymore scored his fifth goal of the season. Myles Hamm earned the assist. Nicholas Mabe recovered a ground ball, which led to Chase Pettschake scoring at 11:39. The Wildcats capitalized on their first of the game at 9:25. Hamm was relentless and scored his sixth goal of the season at 5:09. Switching it up from the first goal, Landymore was on the apple. Wilmington placed another in the net at 5:17. The score was now 3-2. It got down to the last three minutes, and the Lakers put two more goals on the board eight seconds apart. Landymore claimed the fourth of the game, assisted by Colin Schmatz at 2:37, while Shawn Doran sent the ball in the net at 2:29.
The first period score was 5-2.
Second Quarter
The Wildcats scored the first of the second quarter at 12:57. Almost three minutes elapsed until Hamm found the net again at 10:05. He was unassisted for this seventh of the season. David Fiorini netted the last goal and his first of the season at 00:53. Schmatz tallied his second assist on the goal.
The game was now 7-3 going into halftime.
Third Quarter
Wilmington earned a penalty early in the third which allowed Hamm to score his third of the game at 14:07. Partick Carrozzi was credited with the assist. The Wildcats were now man up due to a penalty on the Lakers and capitalized at 11:54 and 10:48. Kevin Sprague saw an opportunity in front of the goal to dump the ball in for the first time this season at 8:55. Just over a minute later, Colin Tardif was determined to get a ball in, taking a shot and earning the goal at 7:38. The Wildcats found another at 7:14. Casey Scott claimed his first of the season as well at 4:32, Mabe earned the apple. The Wildcats finished out the quarter with a goal at 1:58.
The score 12-7.
Fourth Quarter
Wilmington earned the first goal of the period at 9:47. The Lakers finished the game scoring three unassisted goals at 8:48, 4:11, and 1:46, the last goal was also a man up. Antonio Rosetti, Tardif, and Scott were the scorers.
