ERIE, Pa. - The Women's Hockey team began CHA Playoffs today, Feb. 24, 2023.
The Lakers defeated the Orange 5-3, with Vanessa Upson and Liliane Perreault each tallying a pair of goals.
How it Happened
First Period
The game was just beginning, and Liliane Perreault saw a gap and capitalized on the goal. Thea Johansson earned the lone assist at 2:23.
Assistant Captain, Vanessa Upson, was the next Laker to put a goal on the board. She accepted a pass from Chantal Ste-Croix at 13:59 to light the lamp.
Second Period
Perreault struck again at 1:24 in the second, which would begin the craziness in the period. Sara Boucher and Jordan Mortlock picked up the apples.
The Orange finally found themselves a goal at 6:12.
Not even a minute later, Sydney Pedersen and Kylee Mahoney allowed Upson to earn her second of the night at 6:54. Thanks to a penalty on Syracuse, the goal was on a power play.
Mary Sweetapple secured the game for the Lakers at 7:29 when the puck had an immaculate bounce and flew right past the goalie. Makayla Javier was there to assist her defense partner.
The Orange were able to capitalize on two more at 10:11 and 16:13.
Third Period
Ena Nystrøm stopped 12 from entering the net as the third period remained scoreless.
Highlights
Javier and Megan McKay tallied three blocks.
The team was 58.6% on the faceoffs.
Perreault and Upson both earned two goals.
