Bartos, McGonigal Earn Wins as Wrestling Drops Final Regular Season Dual at UPJ

ERIE, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Wrestling team fell to Pitt-Johnstown in their final regular season dual on Friday night. Eric Bartos and Luke McGonigal picked up wins for the Lakers in the 34-7 loss. The Lakers finish with a 9-7 overall record and a 5-2 record in the PSAC. 
 
McGonigal who is currently ranked No. 4 at 197 by The Open Mat earned a major decision over No. 10 Dakoda Johnson. The Frenchville, Pa. native took a 2-0 lead in the first period before earning a four point near fall pushing him to his bonus point win. 
 

 
Bartos collected his 24th win of the season tonight over Byron Daubert. The senior opened the scoring in the 133 bout with a reversal in the second period after choosing bottom. The final period saw the most action with Bartos getting a take down and a two-point near fall. An extra point for over a minute of riding time gave him the 7-1 decision. 
 

 
At 174, No. 5 Dillon Walker fell in a 9-6 decision. After an even first period the grapplers went into the second tied at three. Walker found the advantage in the middle stanza with a take down and an escape but couldn't hold on falling to No. 14 Alex Weber. 
 
Jake Niffenegger fell in a 2-1 decision in the 141 bout with the difference coming from riding time. 
 
The Lakers head to the Super Region I tournament next on February 25 in East Stroudburg, Pa.
