The Lakers Flip the Script, Complete a Massive Comeback against Army

Erie, Pa. —  It was a night of redemption for Mercyhurst. They're able to flip the script after slipping last night late, watching the Black Knights comeback, to doing the same to them tonight. The Lakers scored three times in the third to seal the deal at 4-3 and a series split on the weekend.

How It Happened
Feeling confident after their massive comeback last night, Army West Point came out of the gate ferociously. The Black Knights had the majority of the shots through the period, giving Mercyhurst goalie Owen Say a busy day in the office. Vincent Salice had a great chance for Army West Point, pinging it off the crossbar 7 minutes in. Mercyhurst showed signs of attacking threat through the period as well. Ryan Coughlin nearly got the scoring started at the 10 minute mark, trying to shovel it in twice on a pileup near goal. The scoring started with the Black Knights on a power play goal 13 minutes in with Nik Hong getting it in. Mac Gadowsky added to his excellent weekend with another assist after 3 yesterday and the game winning goal. The Lakers had another chance right before the buzzer, Jake Beaune passed it across the Army defense to Steven Agriogianis to shoot in on a vulnerable Szary, but he was able to turn just in time to make the save. It went to the second period 1-0 with the advantage to Army West Point.

The Black Knights started the second on a power play and continued their aggressive play. Jake Hewitt ended up sinking another goal for them on the power play, 1:30 in as none other than Gadowsky was there to help on the assist. The game opened up after that with the keepers making massive saves on both ends of the ice from breakaways. Mercyhurst would be the next team to capitalize, getting back into the game on an Agriogianis 180 backhanded goal. Dustin Geregach and Kyler Head helped on the build up. Army was confident enough to challenge the goal for being offsides, but the goal stood, seeing them lose their challenge for the rest of the game. Only 5 minutes later, the Black Knights regained their two goal lead. This time captain Ricky Lyle was the supplier, scoring in the closing minutes of the period, leaving it at a 3-1 game.

The gears started turning for the Lakers at the beginning of the final period of play. Just a minute into play, freshman defensemen Trent Sambrook netted his first career goal to pull the game within one. Head picked up his second assist of the night and Agriogianis was involved again as well on the goal. Owen Say continued his heroics in goal, determined not to let anything past in the period, giving Mercyhurst a prime chance for the comeback. The game finally tied in the 8th minute with the Lakers on a power play. Kyler Head was the man to find the net this time, capping a dominant day on his third goal involvement. Keanan Stewart lent the assist with Agriogiannis claiming one as well for his third goal involvement on the day. The comeback was in sight and Mercyhurst wasn't taking their foot off the gas, because 3 minutes later, the job was complete. Garrett Dahm sunk the final blow on a tap in past the goalie with Tommy Bannister and Mickey Burns on the aide. Army West Point gave it everything they had, emptying the net in the closing minutes, but the Laker defense locked them up not allowing them more than a couple shots to end regulation. It ends as a series split with the Lakers being the ones to make a monumental comeback tonight.
